GREEN WEAVE

Green Weave is a collection of six hand-woven textiles created for my project launch. Using both hand-spun and pre-spun yarns, I naturally dyed the yarn with local plants. My aim was to bring the outdoors inside—not by copying the look of the landscape, but by capturing its emotions and sensory qualities in each piece. This project reflects my desire to connect people with nature through textile design, inspired by what I see around me every day.

The main theme of Green Weave comes from closely observing my surroundings, such as moss, leaves, bracken, rosemary, and grass. These natural elements inspired both the colours and textures of my work. My design process followed the journey from raw, undyed fibres to yarn, and then to finished pieces. This transformation shows ideas of growth, change, and the cycles found in both nature and personal experience. Through this collection, I want to share a sense of comfort and belonging, and encourage viewers to see the environment in new, more mindful ways.

To bring my theme to life, I used spinning, dyeing, and weaving. I dyed my yarns with natural dye baths I made myself from local plants like rosemary, bracken, and gum leaves. This resulted in a range of green shades that reflect the Australian landscape. Weaving with these materials allowed me to work in a free, intuitive way, echoing the natural world’s variety and abundance. Using natural dyes and sustainable processes was important to my overall approach.

Green Weave turns observations of the Australian outdoors into unique textile pieces that invite people to reconnect with nature. My project explores how design can inspire a deeper appreciation for the environment and suggests future possibilities for sustainable textiles and creative storytelling through materials.
